This is a messed up list, especially considering this week's news on A-Rod. At this point, can we be confident that any of the guys after Daddy Fielder was clean?

Because I'm anal, I went back and looked up every single 50+ home run hitter prior to 1990...that's 119 years of recorded baseball, going back to 1871. Pretty interesting how short this list is, compared to how long the post-1990 list. I mean, 119 years versus 18 is saying something...

Babe Ruth 54 (1920)
Babe Ruth 59 (1921)
Babe Ruth 60 (1927)
Babe Ruth 54 (1928)
Hack Wilson 56 (1930)
Jimmie Foxx 58 (1932)
Jimmie Foxx 50 (1938)
Hank Greenberg 58 (1938)
Johnny Mize 51 (1947)
Ralph Kiner 51 (1947)
Ralph Kiner 54 (1949)
Willie Mays 51 (1955)
Mickey Mantle 52 (1956)
Mickey Mantle 54 (1961)
Roger Maris 61 (1961)
Willie Mays 52 (1965)
George Foster 52 (1977)

Think of all of the sluggers that aren't on this list: George Brett, Mike Schmidt, Kirby Puckett, Don Mattingly, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Carl Yastrzemski, Ted Williams, Carlton Fisk, even my boy Jose Canseco...the list goes on and on.

Pretty startling, isn't it.
